Biography of Dr. Dollinger
Malin Dollinger, M.D. is an experienced cancer specialist who has been practicing cancer medicine since 1968. He has taken care of thousands of patients with all forms of cancer, and is trained in internal medicine and medical oncology. His special interest is communication and education, and he has lectured extensively to medical and nursing professionals, and to the public and has appeared on numerous radio and TV shows, most recently the Larry King show. He is the co-author of the best-selling book, ``Everyone's Guide to Cancer Therapy,'' sold across the USA and in many foreign countries as an educational tool for the general public. He also teaches at USC School of Medicine as a Clinical Professor of Medicine, where he teaches physicians in training to be cancer specialists.
After his undergraduate education at Stanford and medical degree at Yale, he took a residency in internal medicine at the University of California Hospital system in San Francisco, and a three-year fellowship in medical oncology [cancer] at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He was subsequently on the full-time staff at that institution, and then spent one year in the private practice of cancer medicine in Pasadena, California. He was then Director of Oncology at UCLA/Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, CA. From 1971 to 1994 he was in the full-time private practice of cancer medicine in Torrance, CA, and from 1995-1998 was vice-president of medical affairs at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA. He was subsequently in the private practice of medical oncology in Rolling Hills Estates, CA, with a focus on second opinions until April 2007. Although he closed his practice office, he continues to assist cancer patients with discussion and advice regarding understanding their cancer, discussion of treatment plans in effect and contemplated, and consideration of further management and treatment. This advice and discussion is conducted via telephone and/or electronic (email) communication.
He co-authored a book for the public, ``Everyone's Guide to Cancer Therapy, by Dollinger, Rosenbaum, and Cable. This was first published in 1991, and is now in its 5th edition published (2008). There are two Canadian editions (endorsed by the Canadian Medical Association) and four other foreign editions. It is a widely read and sold comprehensive cancer book for the public in the United States (over 200,000 copies).
In addition to being certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty board of Medical Oncology, since 1993 he served on the writing and review committee panels for the latter board examination. He is also certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, and is also board-certified in Risk Management and Managed Care.
He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Physicians (Fellow), the American College of Medical Quality (Fellow), and various other scientific and medical organizations, and has received a number of awards, including Visiting Scholar, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; and several American Cancer Society awards for various achievements in cancer treatment, education, and scholarship.
